I worked for a German pneumatics company for over 20 years and working with different steel threaded pipe nipples and have over
30 years experience in fluid power. The US market loves to resist doing
things the right way due to perceived expense of doing it right up
front, so they spend more money with inefficiencies such as leaks, which
are a nightmare in hydraulic systems as you know, and worse in pneumatic
systems because you can't see air leaks but they are very costly. Much
more costly than doing the right thing during original assembly. A major
factor in this is the OEMs who build equipment don't bear the cost of
leaks, so they tend to use inexpensive and inefficient plumbing
techniques because they cost less to install, but are far more costly to
the end user in the long run. I've been in the fluid power business for
over 30 years and this issue has never really changed. This was the reason when pan china decided to manufacture galvanized threaded pipe nipples with rolled thread. Basically rolled thread is use to increase the efficiency and quality of the product.
